Zein Dahabiya Nile Cruise
Zein Dahabiya is a small sailing boat for guests who want a calmer, smaller-scale Nile journey between Luxor and Aswan, with a…

A Dahabiya is a two-masted sailing boat, typically carrying eight to twelve cabins. It is the closest thing on the modern Nile to how people travelled the river before engines, and the experience is genuinely different from a motorship rather than just smaller.
Dahabiyas move with the wind and the current, assisted by a tug when conditions require it. That means the schedule is looser. You may moor early because the wind died, or sail late because it picked up.
If a fixed timetable matters to you, this is the wrong boat. If the point is the river rather than the itinerary, it is exactly right.
Most Dahabiyas sail Esna to Aswan rather than Luxor to Aswan, because the Esna lock is awkward for sailing vessels. You transfer by road from Luxor to Esna to board.
The stops differ as well. Alongside Edfu Temple and Kom Ombo Temple, Dahabiyas typically moor at places motorships pass: El Kab with its rock-cut tombs, the sandstone quarries at Gebel el-Silsila, and small villages with no tourist infrastructure at all.
They also stop for swimming, and for shore dinners cooked on sandbanks. Large ships cannot do either.
Quiet. There is no engine noise for long stretches, no buffet queue, no announcements over a tannoy, and no scramble to disembark before another ship takes the mooring.
Meals are cooked to order for a dozen people rather than assembled for two hundred. The crew learns your name on the first day.
Couples, small groups travelling together, repeat visitors who have already done the standard route, and anyone whose main objection to a Nile cruise is the crowds. Families sometimes charter a whole boat, which works well.
Who should not: first-time visitors on a tight schedule, travellers who want a pool and evening entertainment, and anyone who needs certainty about arrival times.
Every sailing boat with cabin counts, charter options and starting prices from about $990 to $1,890: Dahabiya Nile Cruises.
