The Lake Nasser route: Aswan to Abu Simbel by water

It runs south from the High Dam across the reservoir to Abu Simbel, and it is the only way to reach the relocated Nubian temples along the shoreline — Kalabsha, Wadi El Seboua and Amada — without a long desert drive.

Why it feels nothing like the Nile
There are no villages, no farmland and almost no other vessels. The shoreline is bare desert meeting flat water, and the lake is wide enough that land sometimes disappears entirely. Guests who want to watch riverbank life should sail the Nile; guests who want emptiness and archaeology should come here.
The Abu Simbel arrival
Arriving by water at dawn is the argument for this route. The alternative is a 3am armed convoy or a short flight from Aswan, both of which deliver you into the busiest hour. Ships on the lake moor overnight within sight of the temples.
How most people combine it
A 4-night Nile cruise ending in Aswan, then a 3-night lake sailing starting there. Ask us to quote the pair together rather than separately — the combined price is usually lower, and the Aswan handover is the part that needs coordinating.
