Nile Cruise Prices by Style

Price is driven mainly by cruise style. A standard-class ship and a five-star luxury ship can sail the same route through Edfu and Kom Ombo, but cabin size, staff ratios, dining, and finish level separate their rates. Here is what each style actually costs across our current listings:

Style# of ShipsLowestAverageHighest
Standard Nile Cruises18$429$469$539
Deluxe Nile Cruises22$499$717$899
Luxury Nile Cruises23$799$1,354$2,450

Lake Nasser Cruises5$1,150$1,244$1,350
Egypt Tour Packages22$620$1,091$1,940

Nile Cruise Prices by Route

Route direction (Luxor to Aswan vs. Aswan to Luxor) has a much smaller effect on price than style does — it mostly comes down to which ships happen to be scheduled on each direction that season:

Route# of ShipsLowestAverageHighest
Luxor to Aswan54$440$959$2,450
Aswan to Luxor24$429$992$2,450

What Actually Changes the Price

  • Cruise style — standard, deluxe, luxury, or Dahabiya. This is the single biggest factor; see the style table above.
  • Cabin category — a standard cabin, a Nile-view upgrade, or a suite on the same ship can carry a meaningfully different rate.
  • Season — October to April (peak season) generally runs higher than the summer low season; Christmas, New Year, and Easter carry their own peak pricing on many ships.
  • Group size and cabin occupancy — rates above are per person based on double occupancy; solo travelers typically pay a single-cabin supplement.
  • Length of itinerary — most ships run 4-night or 5-night Luxor–Aswan sailings, but some (particularly Dahabiyas and combo packages) run longer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are these prices per person or per cabin?
Per person, based on two people sharing a double cabin. Solo travelers should expect a single-cabin supplement, and the exact amount varies by ship.

Do these prices include flights?
No. These are cruise-only starting rates. Domestic flights to Luxor or Aswan and any international flights are separate.

Why is there a range instead of one fixed price?
Each ship has a low-season rate, a shoulder-season rate, and a peak-season rate, plus separate pricing for upgraded cabin categories. The figure shown here is the ship’s lowest published starting rate; request a quote with your exact dates for a confirmed number.

What is the cheapest way to see the Nile by cruise ship?
Based on current listings, standard-class ships on the Luxor to Aswan or Aswan to Luxor route start around $429. Compare current standard-class options on the Standard Nile Cruises page.

What actually drives the price you are quoted

Two quotes for the same route can differ by a factor of four. That is not always one company overcharging. It usually reflects five specific variables, and knowing them lets you compare quotes properly.

1. Season

This moves the price more than anything else. October to April is high season. Christmas, New Year and Easter are peak within peak, often 30 percent above normal high-season rates.

June to August is low season, and rates can fall 20 to 30 percent below high season. The heat is real, but the ships are air-conditioned and the temples are emptier.

2. Ship category

Standard, deluxe, luxury and Dahabiya sit in clearly separate price bands. Category affects comfort, not sightseeing, since every ship visits the same temples.

3. Cabin deck and position

On the same ship, an upper-deck cabin costs more than a lower-deck one. Suites cost more again. Lower-deck cabins sit near the waterline with smaller windows set high in the wall.

Mid-ship cabins are quieter than stern cabins, which sit above the engines.

4. Trip length

Three nights from Aswan is the cheapest standard option. Four nights from Luxor costs more. Seven-night sailings and Lake Nasser cruises cost more again.

5. What is bundled in

This is where quotes diverge most, and where a cheap price often hides cost. Check specifically:

  • Entrance tickets. Some quotes exclude them entirely. Across a full itinerary this is a significant sum, particularly the extra-ticket tombs in the Valley of the Kings.
  • Drinks. Most ships include only water with meals. Soft drinks, coffee and alcohol are usually extra.
  • Guide arrangement. A private Egyptologist costs more than a shared group guide.
  • Transfers. Airport to ship transfers are sometimes excluded.
  • Abu Simbel. Frequently an optional extra rather than included.
  • Tips. Crew and guide gratuities are almost never in the price.

Reading a from price

A from price is the cheapest cabin, on the cheapest date, at double occupancy. Solo travellers usually pay a single supplement. Your actual quote will differ.

How to compare fairly

Ask every operator for the same things: ship name, exact date, cabin deck, what is included, guide group size, and cancellation terms. Then compare totals rather than headline rates. A higher quote with tickets and transfers included is often cheaper in the end.
