Cairo and Nile Cruise

Cairo and Nile cruise packages combine the Pyramids, Egyptian Museum or Grand Egyptian Museum area, and the classic Upper Egypt cruise route between Luxor and Aswan.

Cairo and Nile cruise: fitting two very different Egypts into one trip

These 16 packages run 5 to 12 days and cost from about $620 to $1,940 per person. They exist because Cairo and Upper Egypt are 650km apart and the cruise schedule is fixed, so the join between them is the part worth paying someone to get right.

What Cairo adds

The Giza pyramids and the Sphinx, Saqqara’s step pyramid, and the Grand Egyptian Museum, which now holds the complete Tutankhamun collection in one place. Two full days is the realistic minimum; one day means choosing between the plateau and the museum.

Sequencing, which is where trips go wrong

  • Cairo first is the common order: land, see the pyramids, fly south, cruise, fly home from Luxor or Aswan. It front-loads jet lag onto the least demanding days.
  • Cruise first works better if your return flight leaves Cairo early, since it removes a tight domestic connection at the end.
  • The night flight problem. Most long-haul arrivals land in Cairo between 10pm and 2am. A “7-day” itinerary that counts that as day one is really six.

What to confirm in the quote

Whether the domestic flights are included, whether Cairo hotel nights are bed-and-breakfast or half-board, whether the Grand Egyptian Museum ticket is covered, and whether you keep the same guide throughout or change at each city. Those four items explain most of the price gap between packages that look the same on paper.
