Long Nile Cruise

Long Nile cruise routes add more sailing days and may include Dendera, Abydos, Esna, or extended Cairo-to-Luxor sectors depending on vessel operation and security permissions.

Long Nile cruises: more sailing, more temples, fewer ships

Six itineraries here run 8 to 12 days, from about $980 to $1,940 per person. They exist because the standard 4- and 5-night sailings cover only the Luxor–Aswan corridor, which is a fraction of what is actually on the river.

What the extra days buy

  • Dendera. The temple of Hathor, north of Luxor, with a painted ceiling that survives in colour because it was buried under debris until the 19th century. Most cruises never go.
  • Abydos. The Seti I temple and the king list carved in its corridor — one of the primary sources for the entire chronology of ancient Egypt.
  • Esna. The lock and the sunken temple of Khnum, currently mid-restoration and revealing colour nobody had seen for two thousand years.
  • Actual sailing time. On a 4-night cruise you sail perhaps 12 hours total. On these, considerably more.

What to check before booking

Northern sectors beyond Luxor depend on operating permissions that change, so confirm the current itinerary rather than the brochure version. Ask specifically whether Dendera and Abydos are sailed to or reached by road — both are offered either way, and the difference matters.

These sailings run less frequently than the standard route. If your dates are fixed, ask us early which vessels are actually operating them.
